Book

  • 泭Liverpool: Liverpool UP, 2013 (Open Access edition available).泭The book泭reconsiders debates about historical memory from the泭perspective of the theory of emotions. Its main claim is that the demise of the泭Spanish empire in 1898 spurred a number of泭contradictory emotional responses,泭ranging from mourning and melancholia to indignation, pride, and shame. It泭shows how intellectuals sought to reimagine a post-Empire Spain by泭drawing on泭myth and employing a predominantly emotional register, a contention that泭departs from current scholarly depictions of the fin-de-si癡cle crisis in Spain泭that largely leave the泭role of both emotions and imperial myths in that crisis泭unexplored.
