Annual Lectures
2020

On October 14, 2020, in partnership with the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Programs at the CU Denver Business School and the 91勛圖厙 Leeds School of Business, the Collegiate Program at Colorado Law泭presented Carnivals Compliance Journey, featuring Peter Anderson, Carnival Corporations first-ever Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer.泭 We heard the inside story of the worlds largest cruise line operator from the man tasked with overhauling its ethics and compliance system as the company strives to overcome a long history of environmental crimes.泭 Mr. Anderson discussed Carnivals voyage from being the company subject to the largest fine in U.S. history for deliberate vessel pollution, to one that now aspires to embody a culture of compliance and adherence to not only legal and statutory requirements, but also to the highest ethical principles.泭 Mr. Anderson also discussed how, in the midst of an already daunting compliance task, he then had to navigate the devastating impacts of the unexpected coronavirus pandemic, just as one of Carnivals ships surfaced as an early epicenter for the disease.
Mr. Anderson is a former federal prosecutor with over 20 years of experience in corporate compliance. 泭He served with the U.S. Department of Justice Environmental Crimes Division and later, was the head of the泭White Collar and Compliance Group泭at Beveridge & Diamond, PC.泭 Mr. Anderson was initially engaged by泭Carnival to conduct a compliance program assessment, and was later appointed CECO.泭 Immediately prior to his engagement with Carnival, Anderson led the environmental compliance team on the泭Volkswagen泭monitorship.
