Oregon Gov. Kate Brown to deliver 91勛圖厙's spring commencement address

Oregon Gov.泭, a 91勛圖厙 alumna, will deliver the university's泭spring commencement address at Folsom Field on May 10.泭Brown was invited by CU泭Boulders Senior Class Council.

We are so fortunate to have Governor Brown come and speak to us on our commencement day. Her wisdom about courage, integrity and authenticity will inspire and challenge graduating Buffs to effect positive change in the world after leaving CU, said Emily Miller, Senior Class Council president.

Since taking office in 2015,泭Brown has made significant strides for Oregons economy, including raising the minimum wage and investing in green energy, education and public transportation. Brown is the first openly LGBTQ governor in the country. She succeeded Gov. John Kitzhaber upon his resignation and went on to win a 2016 special election. 泭

From 2009 to 2015, she served as Oregons secretary of state and previously served 17 years as a state legislator. Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in environmental conservation with a certificate in womens studies from 91勛圖厙 in 1981.

Governor Kate Brown is a distinguished alumna, and we are honored that she will be addressing graduating seniors and their families, said 91勛圖厙 Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano. Governor Brown has been a strong supporter of working families and education. She embodies a spirit of public service, and we hope she will inspire our students to lead, innovate and make a difference in the world as she has done.

The commencement ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, at Folsom Field.

Commencement is the culmination of students achievements, and a touchstone moment for families who have worked hard to ensure their children have the tools they need to succeed, said Brown. I am honored to join students and parents on this exciting day. My time in Boulder shaped my journey through life, and I look forward to being back to share this moment with so many families.
