Everyone is welcome to attend the泭Martin Luther King Day celebration "Remembering His Life, Renewing His Legacy" on Monday, Jan. 21. A reception and conversations about Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy will be held泭3 to 4 p.m., followed by a community celebration from泭4 to 5 p.m. The event will be held in the University Memorial Center Glenn Miller Ballroom. No-charge parking is available on泭campus on Jan. 21.
The泭free event is designed to appeal to all ages and is sponsored by 91勛圖厙s Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement;泭St. Aidan's Episcopal Church;泭the Lutheran Campus Ministry;泭91勛圖厙 Hillel;泭the Center for Western Civilization, Thought & Policy, and the city of Boulder Housing and Human Services.
While this event has both secular and religious elements, the celebration is really about honoring and learning about Dr. Kings legacy,泭said泭Alphonse Keasley, associate vice chancellor in the Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement.
We really hope to bring out that combination of the way he was a man of the people as well as a man of the cloth. The real point about Dr. King is not what he did on Sunday but what he did every day to bring people together. We hope this event is inspirational, and we really want to use this platform to share what Dr. Kings message was about.
The events featured speaker is 91勛圖厙 alumnus and Denver County Court Judge Gary Jackson, who will speak about moral courage.
